Off-grid power has a steep learning curve. Between watt-hours, amp-hours, charge controllers, and a flood of gear reviews that all seem to disagree with each other, it's easy to spend more time researching than actually getting outside or on the road.
Grid Escape started as a way to write down clear, practical answers to the questions that kept coming up — how solar systems actually work, how to size a battery for a weekend trip, what a van electrical build really needs. The goal is simple: explain things the way we wish they'd been explained to us the first time.
Jeff has spent over 12 years building and designing websites, and started Grid Escape after getting pulled into off-grid power out of personal curiosity — first for camping trips, then for a van build. This site is a solo project, written and maintained independently, with no in-house team or newsroom behind it.
